Travel

Airport to Stanford Information: Stanford is accessible from the airports via public transportation and walking. For driving directions, check the Stanford website here.

From SFO, there will be signs throughout the terminal directing you to the BART station. BART stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit and essentially functions like a subway. Unlike typical subways, such as the New York City subway system, BART covers longer distances. You are charged depending on the distance that you travel.

Get on the BART train from San Francisco International Airport. There is only one line. The yellow line will take you to San Bruno, which is a transfer station. Get off at San Bruno, and transfer to a Millbrae bound train. On the weekdays, it will be the red line. On weeknights and weekends, it will be blue. One-way fare on BART from SFO to Millbrae is $1.50. Millbrae is the last station, so you should not worry about missing it. (Not even Chuck Norris can ride BART past Millbrae. Patrick Jameson? Maybe.)

At Millbrae, you will need to transfer to a new train. Caltrain is a train service that operates similarly to the NJ Transit system, except fare is calculated by the number of zones you travel, and not from station to station. Board the southbound Caltrain at Millbrae, which is in Zone 2. Ride Caltrain until you reach the California Ave. station. One-way fare on Caltrain across two zones is $4.25.

NOTE: The California Ave. station is closest to Stanford Terrace Inn, but the Palo Alto station is closer to Stanford.

It is a 1 km walk from the California Ave. station to Stanford Terrace Inn.

Hotel

There is the option for adults (18 years-old and over) to register for on-campus housing. Individual adults can register for $82.50/night. 2-4 bedroom units are $68.80/night per person.

Only people over the age of 18 can register for a room. The individual application housing is available in the Studio 1 and 2 buildings and selected Rains apartments. They are located in the graduate student housing side of campus right adjacent to Escondido Village.

The website is now live and you may register a room through the Stanford Conference Services website. The website is located here.

If you follow that link that takes you to the Stanford Student Conferences, the first page will have a section titled "All Other Non-Student Stanford Summer Visitors." Follow that link, or you can also click here" and it will take you to that page. You'll notice that the only real choice is the Rains Apartments because there is no minimum stay. There are instructions below for the application procedures. If there are any problems, feel free to contact us and we'll sort it out.
